MG MGA - introduction
Hello all, My name is Andres and I am an MGAholic. A little background first. I am now continuing the restoration of my 62 Mk II. I say continuing because this started in approx 1990 when I was in high school and decided it would be cool "to fix up dad's sports car and go cruising". I proceeded to rip as much out of the car as I possibly could with the help of my Haynes manual, neatly packing things in boxes and sort of labelling some things that might be important. Things then stopped with the restoration. Fast forward 17 years and I am ready to go again, and dad says I can have the car. I have gathered most of the parts together but some were unfortunately destroyed by fire. I have already had the engine rebuilt (didn't feel like doing it myself) and I am currently going through the gearbox to see what needs to be done there. I also keep going back to work on the rust removal/welding of the body and frame as time permits. I will post questions/parts requests as they come up and I look forward to your resposes. This is a fantastic site and thank you all for posting and keeping this place and the MGA name alive! Andres Losin PS The picture is of the car and where it was stored, but that's a story for another day. |

Hi, Andres - Congratulations on getting your project back in action. How is the weather up in BC? Down here in the Puget Sound area we've been having indian summer and have had great MG days all week. You will be so happy when the car gets back on the road you'll wonder why you let the project lie dormant for so long (mine sat under a tarp for 15 years). Good luck! |

Weather is fantastic! I just want to get the car on the road so I can enjoy it. Andres |

Hi Andres, Where are you in BC? We just got back from Osoyoos this weekend where we went in our '56 OEW 1500. We saw two other MGA's there. Check out www.jaguarmg.com if you live near Vancouver and want info on CCMGC. Next meeting is October 15th, and we would be happy to talk to you about your restoration. You're right that this is a great site. Regards, Peter and Anne Tilbury (also have a '58 coupe under restoration). |

I also have a '62 Mk II with a similar history. Didn't start off as rough as yours, but I'm almost done now. Here's the car: http://www.alamomg.org/darian.html Good luck. This is a great site. Darian |

Hey, Darian - Looks like yours started off a little bit better than mine, at least the interior: http://tildebang.com/mg/index2.html |

That is pretty rough, though in a way it doesn't matter. I still had to throw my carpet and floorboards away. The carpeting was so moldy I was literally gagging from the dust. Looks good now, though. Mind if I link to your restoration pages from our club website (www.alamomg.org)? |

Peter, I live in Surrey. How was the drive to Osoyoos? Must have been fun! I can't wait to do that in mine. Andres |

Andres, My '56 and '58 also live in Surrey. Give me a call (604 535 0648)if you want to visit them, or just want to chat about your restoration. Drive to Osoyoos was a blast - lots of twisties, and got up to 120 kph in some places.(That's only 72 mph, but 20 kph over the limit in BC - sorry officer!) Peter. |

Thanks for the offer Peter, I will gladly give you a call when I have some free time. I have LOTS of questions and would love to come by and take a peek. Andres |
