MG MGA - Is this really a Le Mans MGA?
I spotted this film clip on YouTube today, it is some really great footage taken by the new Go-Pro camera that gives an amazing panoramic view.
The camera even edits out the pole that it is mounted on so that it looks like the car is being filmed by a third-person flying overhead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRrNJ3zUnQw Does anyone know anything about this car? I assume it is a "Le Mans style" MGA, and not the real thing? I definitely wouldn't store my own MGA outside under a plastic car cover and, if I owned a real Le Mans car, it would be safely stored away under very secure lock and key. Colyn |

Strange but true. I have stayed in the hotel where this was filmed. It is up in the mountains north of Chiang May in Thailand, close to the Myanmar border. I am sure the owner keeps the car in a nice safe garage in Bangkok with the rest of his collection. You have something in common as he's in the glasses trade too!
The car looks to be just a (nicely done but poor) replica, with the engine bay modified with a very large pedal box for a modern servo. Classic cars are hugely expensive in Thailand so I am sure he takes very good care of it - looks like he was out for a trip with his 911 mates |

Look at the condition of the blue 911 parked next to him after sitting uncovered all night, and tell me you wouldn't put that waterproof cover on it! Especially since the MGA doesn't have a top and the cover was soaking wet. I assume he's on a trip, so no garage would be available. I didn't watch the whole video (no sound available right now) but I don't see anything that tells me this car wasn't a regular MGA that someone fixed up like that. |

Colyn What a delightful video. Thanks for sharing it. His car cover is cleaner than my car! |
