MG MGA - Jetsetter
I was given a pair of carburettor setting/balancing instruments some time ago, but do not know how to work them. I have Googled Jetsetter with no success. Any ideas? picture attached. |

Nigel Not seen those before but I have a set of SU balancing rods that came in one of their kits. You remove the dashpot screw-in dampers and insert the rods. With the engine running you observe the rods rise together when you increase engine revs. http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/su_carburettor_tool.htm Steve |

Apparently they are for setting the jet height. I see that yours show two different indications even at rest. Is there a way to zero them? see http://www.imps4ever.info/tech/carbs/twin-carburettors.html |

It can also be used to check piston movement like the wire indicators Moss and others sell. There is some discussion of it on this site http://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?1,2475549,page=2 |

Nigel Are those Phillips screws in the center?...If so , maybe they are for zero setting.... You'll need a very small head or a really flexible neck , to see them while in the car! (LOL!).... But a telescoping mirror will help. Edward |

I use an external vernier caliper to measure the jet depths. I make a note of the settings before dismantling the jets for overhaul then use the same measurement on reassembly. Always spot on. Steve |

Thanks for the answers. JOHN. Yes, they can be zeroed. There is a small lever at the back. I may try to sell them on Ebay, I can't see me using them! |

Nigel, a single Jetsetter (with instructions) sold for £77 on ebay last year. For your 'matched' pair you shouldn’t have a problem. Richard |

Richard; Wow, thanks for that info. |

Are these used to set the jet height with the dashpot removed? If so, what would the benefit of having two be? |
Neil McG |
Exactly what I what i was thinking Neil. I only use one Vernier caliper. Steve |

I don't know if this is significant, but one has a moving blue needle, and the other a red needle. |
