MG MGA - Kenlowe Instructions

Has anybody kept theirs? I've got a never-been-fitted Kenlowe from a pal, and that is one vital part that's missing.
Nick

Nick,

Not specifically for the A - but does this help?

Otherwise, the website has a lot of detail, though not instructions

What are you doing on the MGA board on a Saturday afternoon, Steve?

Thanks for the link to grublogger. But the fan I've got is not a shrouded one; it's the simple fan with two bent ali rods for fixing.

I'm going to a pub event tomorrow, so I shall ask everybody there (who has a Kenlowe) if I can snoop and take photographs.

I have a 12 " Kenlowe Fan fitted to my A and the instructions are identical to those shown by Steve. Mine was fitted by the previous owner and He kept the original mechanical fan as well . The mechanical fan works well and cools the engine in most running situations The kenlowe only operates after idling in traffic etc when the temp rises to over 190-195 and then cools it down to 170. It is fitted to the front of the radiator obviously
My fan is shrouded i.e. in a simple plastic case which is fitted to the radiator as shown in Steves instructions

Paul, What I don't follow is the need to retain the power robbing belt driven fan when an electric fan is fitted. The Kenlowe reserch shows that a cooling fan is only need approxamatly 4% of the time.In sunny AUST
my 1500 A Roadster bears this out.On a mild to cool day the electric fan does not come on at all, unless I get caught in very heavy traffic. I run a 185% thermostat and a blanking sleeve, the running temp. is 190 to 195/200 degrees.
ie., fairly stable up and down hill. Sean

Hi Nick, I have the original fan fitting instructions. The electrical connection instructions are similar to the ones that Steve found but I also have the mechanical mounting ones for the two alloy rods as well. Will photo them if you haven't already sorted it - cheers Cam

you need the belt to drive the water pump. If you don't like the mechanical fan, then remove the blades, but you DO need the water pump

Can't answer why both fans were fitted, the system seems to work well and a number of A's I have seen over here still have retained the mechanical fan with the Kenlowe.I have toyed with taking the blades off but as it works well and I don't seem to have lost any power i have left alone

Cam, that would be really kind. To be honest, I could fit the fan with a couple of bits of meccano - but you know how it is - having all the right bits, I'd like to use them and do it as intended.
