MG MGA - Knock-off nut striped threads

Hi
I'm currently parting out a 58 MGA with wire wheels. The problem is the front right knock-off spins in the correct direction but does not back out. The first 180 degrees of rotation is fairy easy, the next 180 is very hard. Each rotation is the same. Is it possible to strip the threads on the knock-off ?
Can this be cut off and save the hub ?
Thanks Gary

The hub is steel--I think the nut is brass. Theoretically--you could cut it off and save the hub--however--the hub may have thread damage that led to the stripping of the knock-off. The splines may also be worn. You can cut off the nut easily. Use a pnuematic cutoff tool to slice both sides of the nut nearly through--you don't want to cut into the hub. Seeing sparks will alert you to the fact you've gone too far. Then split the nut with a cold chisel. I had a wire wheel that was frozen to the hub once, and removed the center of the wheel from the hub using the same method. The hub was still in good shape and is still on my car.

It's very possible to strip the threads! My dad was driving his '59 down the highway one time when his drivers front let go. He said he was driving along, noticed a slight bump and then saw this nice 60-spoke wire wheel over in the other lane, pacing him down the road. The lone wheel, gradually slowed down from 65mph and slowly drifted away into the median. He hit the brakes, but realized that he was still in control of the car. He let off the brake and gently slowed to a stop. No damage to the car other than the bead around the drum was ground flat during the initial heavy braking. He actually walked up the road, while waiting for rescue, and noticed the bark knocked off a tree. A short search and he found the liberated knock-off. The threads were indeed stripped. It's now a doorstop in his office.

I'd wrap a strap under both ears and pull on it a little with a wench. Then I'd try to undo it, while under pressure. The additional outward help might make the threads catch.

Thanks for the info. I will try the strap trick first if it does not work I will start cutting.
