Good weather all the way from Land's End, great line-up of MGAs; wonderful route yesterday through Wales, now leaving Telford for Huddersfield. Stuart Mumby has done an extraordinary job planning the route. Cheers, Doug |

So much to enjoy about this event, superb weather, fantastic routes (thanks yet again Stuart),great hotels and best of all, the most friendly group of people that I have ever met. The Australians are a great bunch and have made this trip even more enjoyable. Having "spoken" to many of them often on the forum, it was great to be able to finally get to meet them in person. The only downside for us was the fact that my wife Chris took a fall just as we arrived at the Lands End hotel and broke her leg! So after only 2 hours at the local Penzance hospital, the leg was re-set, put in a plaster cast and she was back at the hotel getting ready for the evening get together. She wasnt going to let anything as simple as a broken leg spoil her trip, they make them tough in Yorkshire! I have attached a picture of the superb Lands End sunset over our MGAs on the sunday night. Colyn |

Can I ask was the group passing through Crainlarich at around 2pm last Sunday? My daughter said she saw 'sports cars' but shamefully she wasn't sure whether they were MGAs. Paul |

Yes, it would have been the LE JoG MGAs Paul, there were at least 50 MGAs passing through on our way up to Tyndrum and then up to Pitlochry. We all set our own pace and so you wouldnt have seen an MGA parade, sometimes we could drive for an hour or two and not see another MG at all. Sorry about delayed response but we just got home last night after a 600 mile run home to Yorkshire, we covered over 2500 miles in total and it was just fantastic. I have always wanted to drive my MGA through Cumbria and the Scottish Highlands and we took on Hardknott Pass and the challenging drive around the amazingly narrow northwest coastal road. What a beautiful part of the world. Our thanks to Stuart Mumby, the MGA Registers Master route planner for designing such an amazing route and to everyone else involved in the planning of the event. There were a few major breakdowns including Russell and Barbara Anderson who had shipped there car all the way from Australia only to have the crankshaft break only a few miles away from Southampton! Fortunately they found a local mg specialist who somehow located a spare crank and proceeded to fix it over a few days. The Andersons followed the tour in a hire car and then on the end of the 3rd day, they drove back overnight from Yorkshire to Southampton to drive the MGA straight back. This wasnt made any easier by poor old Russell contracting food poisoning which made for a much "interrupted" journey They then rejoined as if nothing had happened! A tough bunch those Aussies. I also must mention George and Stella Dutton (who had checked out all the hotels prior to the event) and had driven with the Tour almost as far as Thurso on the North Coast only to have their head gasket fail on them. This meant that they missed the fantastic (and emotional) gathering and photoshoot at John o Groats. I hope they managed to to have their own photo opportunity after the car was fixed. (We will just have to photoshop them into main picture later as they were there with us in spirit!) Colyn |

A bit late with this but coming home from Edinburgh over our now World Heritage Site bridge 2 weeks ago I spotted this A below me outside our local pub. This rather nice 1500 was clearly on its way home from John O'Groats as evidenced by the rally plate. Was it anyone on the list? I had a look in the bar but neither of the 2 customers looked like MGA owners so no contact. Paul |

Paul, it was the car belonging to the Austins who are from the W Midlands. So the two customers in the bar didnt have that distinctive MGA owner look:- Hunched over posture from trying to keep out of the slipstream and that characteristic stiff neck from the all that cold air battering the back of your head. Watery eyes caused by both the wind in your eyes and the heartbreaking effect that running an MGA has on your wallet. Some form of ridiculous looking but sensible hat. Those distinctive missing knuckles and elastoplasts randomly distributed amongst your fingers. Constant silly grin in spite of all the above. Colyn |
