MG MGA - Large Bore Header

Need to replace the header on my MGA race car. APT has a system. Any other ststems available? David Anton has two styles, but I was curious if a large bore system was available. I can have a Race shop make one, but we are talking about big bucks. Any ideas.

Ash,
Hans Pederson in Austrailia at: www.hi-flow.com offfers one that looks good to me. I would choose it over the alternatives w/o hesitation. It is not cheap and shipping costs is part of the mix. Maybe someone out there has tried it? Hans seeems to have a very good reputation from prior threads.

Happy New Year to one and all!

I've been quite happy with the Peco system. I think it's the only aftermarket exhaust to actually increase horsepower over the standard MGB system. It should work as well for an MGA. If I had a choice, I'd rather the Peco was made in stainless, but it's held up quite well in autocross and track days.

The Peco exhaust won't fit the MGA without some major modification- the steering linkage interfers. That's why header systems for the MGA are expensive and not plentiful. When it's time for me to fit a header I will have a local shop custom make one, as many others have done.

The MGOC in UK offers an A competition header
dominic clancy

These are big bore... 1 3/4 from memory or was it 2 inch???
I fitted these STR633 or STR633S for stainless from Moss UK. They fit my LHD car MGA also.

Picture on page 16 of their UK catalogue.

Comes with a separate detachable collector.
They also have quiet a good straight section from the ports, which gives greater performance. Some turn sharply down.

However if your after the max power and are using a Webber, get some made that are straighter still from the port.

Exhaust wrap tape is the best thing you will every buy and is allot easier to fit at this point.

Easy to beat MX5's !!!

If memory serves, APT offered 2 Maniflow MGA headers when I bought mine several years ago. I got the "street" version (for my street car), the "competition" was larger bore. It is serving me well; the fit was good, product quality looked great, no complaints. It wasn't cheap. I had it ceramic coated by an outside source (HPC near Hartford CT) and the package has held up well. It is connected to a single box Maniflow exhaust system which sounds great (but if it's a race car, that probably doesn't matter much).(Where are you in NY?)

Thanks for the info. I am in Westchester NY. I tried to contact HANS from Hi Flow in Australia, but he has not contacted me.Hi-Flow has great looking Large Bore headers, but for right hand drive. Looks like I will call David Anton at APT and get the Racing Header. The dollar is to soft, and to by from England might be a biy pricey. Thanks for the info.
