MG MGA - leaking bolt - chamber to body
I have just fitted my float chambers to the carbs using new rubber grommet , bolt and fibre washer, however I still get a persistent leak every time I switch on pump. When I asked my parts supplier for the concave washer he said I can use the fibre washer instead. Is this so? I find this very worrying in view of the fact that the fuel drops on the exhaust. Your comments and suggestions are appreciated. |

The 1500 cars used the concave washer and banjo bolt. The 1600 cars used a banjo stud with nut and flat steel washer. Both of those changes were likely to be for cost reduction. I haven't had a chance to measure and compare the parts, but I suspect the stud may be shorter than the bolt to make the flat washer work. I do know that installing a flat washer on the 1500 type banjo bolt will cause it to leak. The concave washer is definitely required on the banjo bolt. The parts are interchangeable as set. Thank you very much Barney. I anticipate to finish my 1956MGA early next year, however sometimes I feel I do two steps forward and then one backwards. |
