MG MGA - Leaking Brakes
I am in the process of installing new brake lines in my 1962 DeLuxe. The calipers have been completely rebuilt. New Brake lines have been installed. The brake lines came with double flares. When we filled the MC the brake lines leaked at the calipers. We decided that the flares should be single flares and reflared/replaces the lines. Filled the MC and no leaks were evident. Began to blead the brakes and leaks started at three of the four calipers. Any suggestions? Mark |

Mark, are you refering to the connection between the hard line on the chassis and the flex line or the connection between the flex line and the actual caliper? The connection at the caliper requires two copper washers to seal the banjo nut properly. The hard lines should be a 'bubble flare' not the inverse flare commonly used on US made cars. Check the archives for information on how to form the bubble flares, should be in the Sprite midget threads. |

Bill, The leak is with the crossover pipe on the calipers. The flare that the pipe came with was a "inverse flare and leaked with out even pusing down on the pedal. We changed the flares to the bubble type and they are still leaking. The fittings on the calipers are not banjo fittings so a washer is not needed. Mark |
