MG MGA - LED light replacement

'60 MGA. Re-doing the electrical wiring. Anyone know of where to get LED dash lights? Anyone with experience doing this modification? Thanks! JOHN

Be aware that the dash lights will then no longer be dimmable, they will then only be on or off.

Out of interest I tried led bulbs in the rear lights on the B I just rewired, and found they were noticeably dimmer than the standard bulbs because they made no use of the reflector at all. The special units from Brian in contrast are significantly brighter than the standard bulbs.

My dash lights have always been dim but recently I fitted what is basically a complete new speedo. The old speedo's case over time had rusted and dusty, but the new case, I think is zinc plated inside and out, is now very reflective and with the standard 2W bulbs I reckon the gauge illumination is quite acceptable. Like new perhaps?
So a good equivalent solution would be to prepare and paint the inside of the cases silver. Maybe white would be even better.

Inside of the tach and speedo cases were originally painted white for brightness, and then the top quadrant was painted light blue to give the blue cast on the display (similar to the blue filter ring on the smaller instruments). The attached picture is from a 1964-1967 MGB electric tach.

If you need more "gauge illumination" I would suggest Pete's approach by painting the interior of the gauge case white, and add the blue if desired. Also consider using a halogen bulb of the same wattage (if available) as they are supposed to put out more light with the same power draw (heat output).

Halogen lights can get pretty hot in a closed environment. Try it outside of the car first!
