MG MGA - Looking for Steel Wheels
Hi Everyone, I'm looking for 2 or more steel wheels for my MGA. I live in Ontario. Anyone close to me have some for sale? Please let me know. Thanks, Ian |

I don't have any for sale but: there are at least 2 different steel wheel that were stock on pushrod MGAs. 1500 style and a different wheel for 1600 cars. The two wheels look similar but the 1500 ones won't clear the disc brakes on a 1600. The wheel with the tire on the car is a 1500 style one. The unmounted wheel is for a 1600. |

Where abouts in Ontario are you Ian? A fellow in our club (Ottawa MG Club) apparently has a set of solid MGA wheels for sale. See his ad titled 'MGB Rims 1962-67' here (http://omgc.info/classifieds_1_3/index.php?method=showhtmllist&list=classifiedscategory&rollid=12&fromfromlist=classifiedscategory&fromfrommethod=showhtmllist&clearoff=1). I don't know which style they are, but you could give him a call to find out. |

Thanks, I'm located in Kitchener. |

The MGB wheels are 14" MGA are 15" You can use mgb wheels and tires on a MGA 1500 not a 1600 the rotors rub the wheels. |

The MGA 1500 type wheels WILL fit and clear the calipers on a 1600 car. Surprise. Aside from differences in appearances, the later type wheel has 1-gauge thicker metal in the center piece, and 1-gauge thinner metal in the rim piece. Net result is a stronger wheel that is 2-pounds lighter weight. The later wheel was introduced in January 1959, a few months before introduction of the 1600 model, so there were a few thousand 1500's produced with the later type wheels. |

I'm going to take the rims off and use them to replace the rims on my Twin Cam wheels. Would the correct rims be from the 1500 or 1600? Thanks, Ian |

I thought the TC rims were a peg-drive wheel, or am I thinking Jaguar... |

Ian, You're planning to remove the rivets and separate the center from the rim? Then put the rims on your Twin Cam centers, I presume. Ken |

Hi Ken, Yes that's correct. The Twin Cam rims were widened by a DPO with flat metal poorly welded around the rim to make them 6" wide and unusable. I would like to bring them back to standard size and they look to be identical to a sample 1500 rim I have. I have just today removed all the rivets from both the TC and the 1500 and sure enough its a perfect match with the TC centers a tight fit within the 1500 outer rim. The rivet holes are in the wrong spot but I can weld them shut and drill new ones. I'm looking for 2 more 1500 rims. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Ian |

I have a lot of wheels. the problem is finding a straight one. If you know someone who can straighten the wheels let me know. A member of my local club said he had sandblasted and painted his wheels and then took them to the tire shop to be ballanced and two of them were bent. I went threw about ten wheels that I have for him and all but two were bent. |

Ian, Keith at Foreign Parts Positively in Washington state has a huge inventory of used parts. You might try him. http://www.foreignpartspositively.com/ Ken |

Ian, I saw this ad on Kijiji this morning (no affiliation, btw). Parts are in Kingston. He apparently has a bunch of wheels but I don't know if any are MGA. http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1000-s-of-New-and-Used-British-Car-Parts-MG-Triumph-TR6-midget-W0QQAdIdZ162317207 |

It is entirely possible that "bent" wheels are not in fact bent at all. It's the same problem as with Rostyle or wire wheels - the dippy modern tire shop guys don't know how to mount a wheel correctly on their wizzbang machines. The center holes on these wheels cannot be used for accurate location, as they were not designed for such. Mount the wheel on a hub with good bearings and indicate off the bead seats. If a wheel is bent, it is usually bent in the center, not the rim, barring obvious impact damage. So, for Ian's purpose, "bent" wheels could be fine - he only needs straight rims. FRM |

Hi Andy, I contacted the guy on Kijiji and he said most of his MGA parts are gone. Thanks, Ian |
