MG MGA - Lucas Bulbs
I have uploaded a list of all Lucas Bulbs to 1983. The information includes part number, volts, watts, type, cap and filament. Also included is a diagram of each bulb type. Item 17 on this web page: http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/technical_information.htm Something to brighten your life Gordon. Steve |

Steve, Thanks for the work. I for one have been enlightened. Mark |

Hi Steve thank you very illuminating gordon |

Thanks Steve - I wonder if the meddling powers that be are going to make us use "energy saving" fluorescent or LED bulbs instead of filament types as they are doing with domestic bulbs!! |

Hi Cam. There are a good number of reasons why led bulbs CAN be better and low energy consumprion is just one of them. They also give off less heat and are generally more resistant to power surges. I am replacing the original bulbs on the dasboard with LED ones as the heat of the original blackens the plastic and over time means the illumination is very poor. I got this tip for my E-Type which has plastic domes over the bulbs. Over time the dome softens and melts onto the bulb, then it blackens and no longer allows light through. The LED version fixes the issue as virtually no heat is generated. In modern LED stop lights one LED not functioning does not mean the brake light does not come on. A distinct advantage also? How many times do we see cars withonly one brake light functioning? At least in the MGA you just need to turn around in the seat while applying the brake and you can see if they are working?!! Neil |

Another plus for LEDs is their life..something on the order of 20000 hrs. Cheers, GTF |

Hi Neil , Yes I agree LEDs can be a good idea -and I may take up your idea for panel lighting. I was trying to get at govt depts that say they are being "green" recommending things that are not really "green". The LEDs used in a car are not going to save the planet - and the chemical processes used in making fluorescent lamps may cause more damage to the planet than those used for the filament lamp. |
