MG MGA - Lucas Distributor Data Book

Does anyone have access to this book please?

There is an online version but this is being called into question.

I'm after a scan of the relevant page/s please for the following distributors:

40510
40718A
40718E

Many Thanks

Mark

I have a 20 page PDF of a kazillion Lucas distributors numbers for everyhing imaginable with settings, advance, vehicle use (I guess tractors are vehicle of sorts) etc. I used it to find parts for a friends tractor. Would this help?

Must be this 20-page spread sheet, already on line:

yes that's correct Barney,

But several of us are questioning this source (Hence I did not quote it) and want to see the original Lucas distributor data book.

Specifically the above link says 13 Degrees max for 40718A and other sources say 14 Degrees. Perhaps a typo I can have corrected.

Data is also missing for 40510 which is available elsewhere and there is no reference to 40718E which may have an altogether different curve.

If that link was lost it appears so would a great deal of useful info, as I can't seem to get at the original source data from Lucas, which we suspect was never released to the public.

Cheers

That is the spreadsheet I have.

That is Marcel Chichak's list. So far as I know, he compiled it from many sources over many years. The first version I saw was one page, and I think there was a request for readers to send additional specs.

In the factory WSM that do have advance data, like the Bentley MGB reprint, advance figures are generally given as +/- 2 deg. I've seen others that give split listings, like 16-18. Consider yourself lucky to have any info at all!

The Lucas numbering system is that the number refers to the complete unit specification, and suffix letters refer to internal changes which may affect detail spares but do not change the specification. So, any 40718 will be interchangeable and functionally identical to any other as a unit, regardless of suffix. If you need parts for it, the suffix letters are critical.

Thanks frm

Does a jump from suffix a to f relate to a specific part change?

Just trying to identify someone else who has access to the Lucas source data but that is looking unlikely thus far.

Mark -
Can't tell you; my Lucas book only lists 40718A, but the book is dated 1946-1960. Advance range for this is listed as 12-14.

As example, for normal (pushrod) MGA: early 56 40499A;, Later 56-59 40510A; Later 59-60 40510B/D&F; Later 60 40510E&H. /A has a different vacuum capsule, bottom bush, and cap retaining clip. The other shown variants are all to do with details of the mechanical advance construction, but have the same range, 11.5-13 degrees.

What are the stamped dates on yours? WW YY
