MG MGA - Main Bearing Studs
I have broken down two MGA engines in the last few weeks and both blocks had studs for the main bearings with a vertical cut running up the length of the stud through threads. Is this the way they come from the factory and what is the purpose for the cut..?...Does it help the lube process..?...Tom |

The normal reason for studs into blind holes to have a cut in the thread is to prevent "hydraulic lock'. Any oil or water in the stud hole could prevent the stud from seating in the full thread length. Mick |
