Quite right. I discovered those massive hot air leaks in my roadster shortly after my rebuild in 98. But it's not just the hot air, it's the fumes that go with it.

Finally got around to using the caulk/dum dum/black stuff! To be honest I was seriously questioning using it because I couldn't see any possible way hot air could enter the cabin via that joint - then I took my air hose and directed it at it. There was tremendous air flow between the cabin and the area behind the brake/clutch master cylinder, ditto in the same area on the passenger side. I sealed those areas, tried the air gun again and no leakage. I took the car out for a long run in 93 degree weather and the car definitely stayed cooler than in the past. Thanks for the info!

I discovered the open space years ago and just plugged it up with an old rag or paper towels in the summer and removed them when colder weather set in for some added heat. Not for every one but works for me. Marvin,ct
