MG MGA - Maniflo Intake Manifold
Has anyone installed one? I ordered one through APT-Fast in Riverside CA. They didn't have one in stock and had to order one from Maniflo in England. They didn't have one in stock and had to build one. They said it varied form the MGB unit because it extended from the block at a 90 degree angle. Trying to install it, it put my original 1500 front SU right up against the fender wall. Dave at APT concluded Maniflo didn't know what they were doing and that I needed "an MGB unit" which extends at about a 70 degree angle. Sounds right, he's sending one out. Maniflo claims they add 3-4 HP. Anybody believe that? Had any good experiences or bad? Steve |

Maniflow's claims of HP are correct, but they need to be taken in context: 1. You need to have a ported head--the stock head won't flow well enough for the stock manifold, let alone a performance unit. 2. You'll pick up the additional HP above roughly 6000 RPM, not throughout the RPM range. --Carl |

Carl, There is a discussion I started on the "Maniflo Intake Maniflold" on the MGB Technical board. What is your opinion about using one on the street? Will it hurt me at lower RPM? With the these engine specs (18V with a Maniflo intake and exhaust, flowed head, Harland Sharp 5.1:1 rockers, re-jetted H6's, APT seconed stage street cam (270), 9:1 compression, lightened fly wheel, 45D pertronix dizzy) would I be better off with the stock manifold? Thank you in advance for your always generious and helpful information. Steve |

Steve, I've run them on the street and they're fine, although the stock manifold, while flawed, is fine too. One thing that could hurt is if you don't get a proper heat shield on there. The best setup with the H6's is to use UK-spec TR6 heat shields--APT sells them. --Carl |
