MG MGA - Mark II rear end spline
I have run into a problem removing the spline on the rear axle of a Mark II. Inside the spline is a castle nut which I removed, but still can not remove the spline. I havn't seen this set up on Barney's site or anywhere else I have looked. Any insite on this would be greatly apreciated. Thanks John |

A castle nut inside the splined hub on the rear axle could be a 1968 or later MGB Sailsbuty (tube type) rear axle. All MGA and early MGB with banjo type axle and wire wheels have the rear splined hubs press fit on the halfshaft splines, no nut. |

Thanks Barney, That's interesting news. Is there a way to find out what it is? |

John, You can see a diagram of both types of axles on the Moss site. http://www.mossmotors.com Click on MGB/C at the menu on the left side of the screen. Click on clutch, Transmission & Drive Train. Click on Differential & Axles. You can then go to illustrations of both types. The MGA has a banjo type, like the early MGB. Mick |
