MG MGA - Master Cylinder 180-670
Have any of you had problems bleeding the Moss / TRW made in China master cylinder? Along with it I have the Equal clutch slave cylinder from Rock Auto. Rubber hose has also been replaced with one from Moss. All items are new. We have tried bleeding with the peddle. Also with a pressure pot from the slave to the Master. The clutch feel good and operates correct just after bleeding. First trip out of the shop shifts good. Then after about a half dozen shift it starts to grind in second. Then it will lock up in first. Rebleed the same thing will happen. The problem is now worse then when I started. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gary |

Gary The archives are full of TRW woes, so you are not alone. In my humble opinion I would put it in the bin and buy a better quality unit such as the one made by AP Caparo. If you are sticking with your TRW I would suggest you read some of Barney's material. Steve |

It looks to me like you are getting some air in the system.... Just because there are no obvious leaks, doesn't mean there isn't an air leak.... Double check all of your connections , and tighten with a brake-line spanner, not a regular "spanner" (open end) wrench....A regular spanner will not give the needed grip to seal the fittings...At least that has been my experience. Once you're positive that all the connections are snug, re-bleed the slave cylinder. Then disconnect the push rod at the slave, and using a large clamp, push the slave rod into the cylinder, while opening the air bleed fitting. Air will get trapped behind the slave piston, and will lurk in there until it is pushed out. Moss has an on-line video describing this bleed method. Worth the effort, IMHO. Edward |
