MG MGA - Master Cylinder question
In the process of rebuilding my master cylinder I noticed that there are two fluid supply/return holes drilled through to the piston chambers, plus what appear to be two holes to the rear of the MC that are not drilled through (see attached photo). Are there supposed to be four holes through to the piston chamber, or just the two in front?
The existing holes correspond to the area of the piston between the seals. These holes are located so that they will always be open to the area of the piston between the seals regardless of pedal location. The location of plugged holes, if open, would allow fluid to pass through behind the rear seal when the brake or clutch pedal is at rest. Pushing on a pedal would move the rear seal past the hole. This MC was resleeved many years ago. Thanks, John |

Hi John Yep 4 holes--but-- the pair that you think aren't drilled must be otherwise it'd never work--they're not full size holes they're just a piny little pin hole in the centre of that drilling --I reckon when you give it a cleanup you'll find them. willy |

John If you zoom in on your photo you can see the tiny holes in the centre of the right hand pair of drillings. They show up as grey dots. John |
