MG MGA - MAYDAY!! Need Rebuilt Jaeger Oil/Water Gauge ASAP
While reinstalling the engine yesterday (the leaky rear seal issue...hopefully now fixed...we'll see), the water temp gauge sending unit broke off from the line. I need to get a new/rebuilt one ASAP, in time to depart for the NAMGAR Key West tour next week. Has anyone bought one of the Moss units? Is it an exact duplicate of the Jaeger? Any other sources for a rebuilt Jaeger unit? I have emailed Margaret Lucas as MO-MA to see if they have one in stock. All help/advice is, as always, very much appreciated.

Frank--I bought a Moss unit--it's a smith rather than Jaeger. I have an extra Jaeger unit--not new--pulled from my part's car. Appears to be OK--needs some cleanup. I'm down the road in Pensacola--

Thank you, Rob. Let me find out if Mo-Ma has a rebuilt one in stock. If so, I'll have her FedEx it to me and return the old one to her. If not, I will get back at ya soon! I will also call Nisonger, but I think they only carry Smiths as well. I know I should not be so darn choosy at this late date, but I figure if I can get a rebuilt one quickly...anyway, I very much appreciate the assist and will let you know in a day or so if I need to take you up on your kind offer. THANK YOU!

I have the Smiths gauge in my car. Except for saying "Smiths" instead of "Jaeger" on the face it's identical. Most people wouldn't even notice. It's worked just fine and it's the brightest gauge on the dash at night (which isn't saying much). There's a picture here: http://zippo.homelinux.org/mg/index34.html

Not that you'll see this in time, but you may want to contact this super ebay seller (never failed me yet) for a Now-Price on his rebuilt unit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6763&item=7967086163 Cheers

Just buy a reconditioned/new one for an early MGB, and change over the face. It's dead easy, and the guages are exactly the same internally.

Mo-Ma to the rescue! Thank you all for the great offers and suggestions. Late yesterday I called Margaret Lucas at Mo-Ma in Albuquerque, New Mexico and she agreed to do a fast-turn-around rebuild of my Jaeger gauge. It was shipped yesterday, she received it today, and I should have it back by Saturday or Monday, latest. So the NAMGAR tour to Key West is still a go! YAY, MARGARET!

Frank- could you post Mo-Ma's address and give us a rough idea of cost? I have a good gauge that has a buggered up nut on the bulb end. I have had a Smiths unit in my car for years, and it has worked well, but I have always wanted to reinstall the Jaeger unit. Thanks Gary

Gary, Here is the info requested: Margaret Lucas, Owner Mo-Ma 1321 Second NW Albuquerque, NM 87102 For a complete rebuild/reface, she charges $150, which includes return shipping. That seems to be the rate for all gauges, whether tach, speedometer, fuel gauge (she will want both gauge and sending unit)or oil/water. With this rebuild, she will have now rebuilt all of my gauges, and I can tell you the workmanship is excellent. She also calibrates speedos if you have replaced your MGA factory gearbox with a 5 speed. As you can see by my recent problem, she is also great to work with. When she did my gas gauge, I shorted the posts on re-wiring it, and fried the newly-rebuilt gauge. She took it back, fixed it, and sent it back to me, no charge.
