MG MGA - MG Progress
1957 MGA 1500. The restoration is progressing a little bit each time I get more than a weekend off to work on it. Solved all the electrical problems, thanks to Barney Gaylord's encouragement and website. The left turn signal would not work and turned out that the contact in the relay needed to be adjusted. So, with that solved I moved on and put the rear bumper on and hooked up the license plate light etc. The clearances on the rear bumper are pretty minimal about 3/8 to 1/2 inch at the corners. I installed the driver seat frame and stole the seat from my 1600 for another test drive around the block. Had my daughter go along. She doesn't have her license yet but has her permit and is learning to drive the 1600. She bet me that she'd have her license before the 1500 has its license and is legal to drive. If she fails the driving test on Jan. 24 I might have a chance to win. The drive around the block was great. The last time I did this I sat in a folding beach chair. Quite an improvment being on an actual MGA seat. Next up is carpeting, upholstery and installing the windshield. (The glazing rubber is too thick, no way would it fit. Took it to a glass shop and they will find a thinner glazing rubber that will work) The final bit will be the front bumper and the grill. (unless I do them first)Long post... anyway the drive was great. The car feels tight, quiet and smooth. It really is a brand new car. Thanks for all the encouragement. It's only been about 14 years that I have owned this car and been rescuing it from the DPO's counter clockwise wrench disease. It was last registered in 1975. |

Great to hear a progress story! And great that you have a daughter who is interested in a LBC. |
