MG MGA - MG Workspace

Some of you may remember a thread from earlier this year in which we discussed the positoning of and usefulness of bullet-shaped rear view mirrors.

The pair I experimented with were useless; too narrow a field of view and unable to get enough mirror angle on the offside (door-mounted) mirror.

I have now found an excellent use for the pair. I have bolted them to a plinth and fixed them to the top of my PC monitor at work. I can now spot my director creeping up on me, giving me sufficient time to switch over from this BBS!

Today I added an MGA Car Club badge to the plinth and my colleagues are suggesting that the plinth should also be painted BRG and a number plate added.

Anyone else MG'd their workspace? If so what have you done?

Well done Steve. While I haven't yet used actual MG parts in my workspace. The wall beind my desk is covered with pictures of my A and my B, and formula one posters from the 60s and 70s.

Hi Steve

I wondered where you found the time to source all the info, do you do any work? I'm master of my own universe here in the garage and I don't get the time to surf the internet. Back to the thread, I've got a cabinet of models cars, mainly old racers (Dinky and Crescent) and MGA's, an MG thermometer and of couse a picture of my Coupe on my computer screen. Just remembered the photo of me driving a Ferrari 360 around Thruxton

An admission: my office seat is an XJS driver's seat fitted on typist chair wheels. Comfortable and especially so when tilted back with my feet on the desk. MGA seats don't have the same usefulness out of the car.

MGA wallpaper on the computer, and LBC pix for my screensaver.

Everyone asks "is that your car?" Etc.

Glad I am not alone. Response seems good so far. I also have my MGA as my desktop backgound. Others around me at work have framed pictures of wife and kids; I keep a pencil sketch my daughter did of my car! Mousemat is also a picture of my MGA. Oh yes, you've probably guesed it, my coffee cup is also BRG with an MG octagon and an MGA. Wall calendar......

OK, here goes...

Various pics of previous MGB and Jaguar owned.

Several diecast MGA's, 1/43 to 1/12 scale.

Two large framed vintage photos, the first is the classic picture of pre-war M-types lined up on the exit road from the MG works; the second was taken of the assembly line, C-types I think.

Framed photo of SRX 210 in a LeMans corner. Next to it is a 1/43 scale MG-LOLA EX257 #34, as raced at LeMans in 2001, these representing 50 years of MG racing developemnt.

Framed event poster for the Vintage MG Grand Prix held at the Grand Rapids Grattan Raceway in 1989. I drove several laps there in my MGB.

A large "Season's Greetings" sign, which has an MGA with a wreath on the grille and a bear(!)at the wheel. These were used at Mobil gas stations years ago, I managed to get several of them when the holidays were over.

A polished wooden plinth that has a short section of chassis from #53, the MG Liquid Suspension Special that ran at the Indianapolis 500. A limited number of these were available as a fund raising effort during restoration of that historic MG race car.

A photo album of my MGA coupe restoration progress, which I use to bore people with when they won't leave my office!

A Jaguar wire wheel knock-off, I just like it.

The ususal MG coffee mug and a photo of my car in front of a Stearman biplane. Now and again, a photo of my MG as the windows desktop background. No human family photos I must admit. My car photo is sitting next to a B/W printout of a Lotus Eleven being towed on a trailer behind a Magnette! This was found on the Net sometime back.

Not me! Nope. Nothing on my pc or at my desk to remind me of the two beauties sitting in my garage. My only outlet while I'm at work is this website. You see my MG issues are a secret. I've yet to come out... Har dee har har.

My screensaver is made from some good pics of MGs I've gathered, As, Bs, and Magnettes. It's fun to have people visiting the office ask me what they are. I usually tell them the Magnette is a small Rolls or Bentley. If they are suitably impressed I tell them the truth.

My half-restored chassis as screen saver and a copy of my licence plate "61MG EH" on the wall as inspiration.

Hey Art! Dont you have that MGA of yours done YET? Whatcha been doin? lol Glenn

There's a little parking lot behind the restaurant that gets a lot of pedestrian traffic too. I leave the car there and a one car, car show usually breaks out! Other than that, the place is MG free with the exception of the MG crested "Abingdon Works" club sticker at the front door.

Steve... Photos! Photos!

I have various models laying about my desk, an MGA knockoff and usually a few parts I'm too lazy to transfer to the garage.
