What vehicle are those wheels from?

I think the owner misread the bit about the radiator fan being yellow!

As we know from a previous thread Steve this again is a misrepresentation. It is unfortunately NOT a restored car. Rad wrong colour wheels wrong, gross interior the list is probably endless. We have upset an awful lot of people at Silverstone, explained to some what this BBS considered a restored car! many were not impressed!
Its quite surprising how many cars have the 5 speed conversion fitted.

The wheels are okay. Thay are MGA 1500 type steel wheels. The hub caps with "MG" center medalion would be from a MG TD or ZA/ZB Magnette.
Barney Gaylord

Wheels look like MGA but deeper set. Either they have been "reversed" or they have been widened IMHO.

Bob, I'd like to know more about the "not impressed" feeling.

To each his own. It's a very nice car. The wheels look like MG centers in "other" outers, works for me. I would want to be sure what's comming out the tail pipe is just evaporation on a cold English morning.
Steve Meline

Steve (Gyles) I think the wheels will be TR6

Are not TR6 wheels 5 stud/bolts?
Cecil Kimber

They ARE TR6 wheels, they fit MGA's, I like the rad, I think I'll paint my Twin cam engine that colour, no, lets do the whole car. Look out for me at Silverstone next year, you'll be able to see it from Towcester

If that's how the owner wanted it - he should keep it to himself. What a mess! Syd (Enever) would not be best pleased...

Chuck I mentioned to an awful lot of restored MGA owners/friends that because of this that and the other mod on their cars, people here did not consider them to be restored. Thus what they replied is not for human consumption! Still it made for an interesting weekend.

There's nothing wrong with some technical improvements - I just try to keep them invisible.

The car looks nice to me - OK the wheels stand out a bit with the cream colour, they would be hardly noticeable if they were silver, and the hubcap meadllions look a bit naff, but compared to some of the other horrors on the road, not much wrong with this one. The interior is an unusual colour, but looks well done. Nothing to go overboard about in the condemnation stakes here!

I think personally that I'd just repaint the wheels and remove the (really ugly) foglights, and the header tank is out of sight so who cares - if it stops the PO getting his fingers in the fanbelt it's just a safety feature.

In the front of my MGA workshop manual there is a picture of a roadster having hubcaps with medallions so either some of the early cars went out with these or they just happened to be around for the photograph.

Mike, my '56 currently sports hubcaps with the medallions. I did take new repro stock-style MGA hubcaps and drilled holes to place real, used TD medallions.

I sure that they were at least once, placed on the ground. I'm sure that this meets the some people's definition for a "ground-up restoration" ;.)

Actually, I agree with you. I did read somewhere in one of my books that some early A's left with the TD hubcaps. Even if they didn't I'm reasonably sure that at least one person had the dealer swap hubcaps from the parts bin to clinch a sale.

I have spoken to the owner of this car. He has had the car for 23 years. The car has not been mot'd for years (his words)and the bodywork is original ie not restored. The car has been resprayed and the engine rebuilt. Just can't help but think its been tarted up for selling, but it really needs viewing.
