Full info on the MGCC website in the MGA Register section I.P.

Its on Sunday August 2nd and you just have to turn up at Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon at 9.30am if you want to join the MGA Parade to nearby Upton House.

The plan is to arrive at Upton House at 12.00 noon which is the venue for this years MGA Day.

Its a really great event with some great people.
There will MGAs in mint condition and also in untouched since new condition, all of them worth a look, I love it.

Hope you can make it

If I put MG badges on my wife's MX5 do you think anyone would notice :)

Gordon
I suppose the MX5 is a kind of a derivative of the MGA, a small streamlined fun to drive sportscar, so it should fit in just fine.

So bring it down, dont bother changing the badges, it is a kind of retro tribute to the MGA and a lovely little car.
Also it would be great to meet you,

Only if you have the correct tool-kit for the MX5 Gordon.
John Bray

I wish it was near enough to come,we now need a passport to cross the Tamar, John,of course I have the correct tool kit for the MX5 not quite as extensive as the MGA though, I hope someone takes lots of photos to keep me going :)

I am afraid Mrs Gyles is not up to 2 hours travelling each way just yet. Also, the seat is too low down and she does not have the flexibility to get her legs through the door aperture. Mind you, I suppose I could put her special armchair back on the boot rack.....

Gordon. Your dreams nearly came true two days ago. Someone across the pond advertised their late MGA Shelley LJ225 car jack for $2,295.95! He has now altered it down a bit to about $495.

Of course the real MGCC MGA Register 'MG Day' was last Sunday in the Ochils and the southern bit of the Scottish Highlands. We had 15 cars including 5 coupes, even 2 Twin Cam coupes. No MX5s but one modern TF although the owner does have an A. Considering it was the day after the 2 days of dire weather at the nearby Open we did very well and we managed to keep the hood down all day.

Perhaps this was just the Scottish MGA Day but a pity we had no entrant from England.

Hi Steve, I'll leave the dreams of jacks to you, I'll just dream of the tool kits :) by they way did the photos of my jack get to you ok

I was planning on being there Paul, we came to your first Scottish MGA Day and loved it.

Unfortunately we couldnt quite fit it in because of family commitments but we will do our best to get there next year.

We will be passing through in september though on our way to John o Groats and I am really looking forward to driving the MGA through Scotland again.

Hi
Attended the MGA day today, celebrating the 60th anniversary. The good weather probably helped boost the turnout.
I would estimate there were maybe 130 MGA's that met up at Gaydon which made a tremendous sight, only surpassed by the convoy that followed as the cars made their way, one by one, along the 15 minute drive to Upton House.

Many thanks to the organisers for a great day.

I second that. A great day that the organisers should be proud of. Enjoyed both the Gaydon and Upton house parts of it. Weren't those 40's girl singers on the front lawns just great? Loved it all.
Bruce.

A great day out -enjoyed all of it especially the massive convoy of MGAs from Gaydon to Upton house ( pity those trying to get onto our road !) Good to meet so many other MGA owners
Was privilaged to have my coupe join the 16 in front of the house
We were also invited to join a small group touring the house prior to opening for an Art tour led by an interesting art historian on what happened to the pictures during the war
well done to the organisers

Have you solved the overheating problem?
Yesterday was a good test with a longish run in hot weather?

Hi All
Drove from Devon to son in Cambridge. Stayed over to visit the event at Upton House. Great show. Over 100 cars. Unfortunately mine is nearly rebuilt so could not drive it along. Well done to the organisers. Great day. Brian

An excellent day with s weather. I understand that there were approximately 116 cars present plus a few late arrivals. Three times as many at MGLive!
I noted that many there were of a certain age older than their cars including myself!
Jerry Birkbeck

I forgot to add my thanks to the organisers
Well done!

What a great MGA Day and a great turnout, we really enjoyed it.

Thanks to everyone involved at the MGA Register for organising a really superb day.

It was great to meet up with old friends again and also to make some new ones.

I took a bit of shaky video with my digital camera of the ride from Gaydon to Upton House.
I have never seen so many MGAs on the road at the same time and it was spectacular.

Apologies for the poor video technique but I hope it gives an impression of how it was.

A great MGA day out in very nice company, some really nice cars on show.
A good run up from Oxford way, on A and B roads, found myself on the M40 at one point and swiftly took the next exit, pulled over, checked the map (navigation has never been my strong point!) to Gaydon and finally arrived there under clear skies, a warm sun, to see the most magnificent assembly of MGAs I have ever seen in one place, well done all who attended, some from a long way away. I parked up and toddled of to register, easy just name and reg. Then a walk about seeking out similar cars to check details and have a nose about, what a display!, so many to check out.

A long line for some of us to get into Upton House, thought the old one was going to give up, and demand a rest in the queue, but she managed to get to her parking spot. I was set a distance from the House, very close to that impressive V8 MGA and the simply beautiful Aston, both spectacular for different reasons.

A big thanks to all the hard working organisers for sorting out such an interesting day, and to all the folks who came along to see the old one, for a chat, a poke around, or to offer some advice and opinions, and the best bit, I finally managed to find a 60 Year grill badge, thanks to the man who tracked that down for me.

I spoke to lots of people there, saw some great examples of the marque and can not remember all your, names or the cars, maybe you caught the early 1500s there, one in red with tan trim another a stunning glacier blue with grey trim or those tidy and not so tidy but just as interesting twin cams closer to the House, the dusty black one, roared past me on the way home, sounding sweet, and showing a turn of speed simply not possible in the standard car.

A few more stops on the way back to check the map, avoiding the ghastly M40 and the old one sees me safely home to pack up and head for the smoke.

I really need to use the road much more in this car that is now approaching 60 years of age, a fine testament to British design and engineering.
Hope see some of you next time, I have one or two pics, lets see if technology will be my friend!.

Happy motoring.

Here's a picture at Gaydon. Sadly it doesn't really do justice to the event.

Paul, thanks, yes the car behaved itself and the temperature gauge didn't cause concern despite the warm weather. A number of people asked about my mesh grill as overheating seems to be a common concern with a number of owners. Steve G who has bet his bottom dollar on my real problem being my radiator may be interested that I had an interesting chat with Dave Godwin who runs the Classic Car Clinic in Australia. He advised that for a radiator to be effective on an MGA it primarily needs to have relatively large gaps in its fins. Modern car fins (like mine) are much closer together. Something to do with the airflow. Also ideally squeezing four cores in, rather than 3, is obviously an advantage.

Incidentally, I bought the Register technical manual on CD. Would highly recommend it.

Laurence
I tried to cut and paste the dropbox link as you advised and I couldnt get it to open. Could you check the link for us as I would love to see your pictures.

Steve
sorry Im not certain who did the bonnet louvres, they came with the car and they were there before Bob West sold it to me. I will try to find out for you as I will be going to Bobs next week.

(Talking of "DPOs" Steve, did you see the picture I uploaded into the "MGA losing power" thread? It shows a big piece of silicon sealer that I found stuck in the inlet of the in-line fuel filter that the DPO had fitted into the fuel line)

Steve,

So 25 years of ownership and 10 years of restoration (frustration) came to fruition at MGA day 60 and what a great day it was.

Lovely to see so many MGA' s gathered in one (sorry 2) locations and Upton House was a lovely backdrop for them.

I wasn't sure we were going to make it and it took a rebuild of the cooling system the week before to ensure she could cope with the warm temperatures. But I guess that's to be expected when you shoe horn three & half litres of Aunties finest under the bonnet...

Thanks to all those involved in organising the event.

Chris.

Oh...

And I thought 'The Femmes' were great too!

Hi Colyn, my old coupe is in all but no 4

Thanks everyone for the photos and videos, so many MGAs together must have been a grand sight, just wish I had been there to see it, but still busy here in Bali.

Would just like to share with you guys some shots of the 'White Lady' all coming together thanks to Bob West and his great team, James and Les.

Thanks also for input from the forum which convinced me to go for the 1840cc engine and T9 5-speed. I decided on the change to the "De-luxe" seats after a friend convinced me that Yani must have the very best comfort for the long trip! Seats look superb although yet to see the car.

Thank you Steve G for putting me in contact with Bob West in the first place.

The 'White Lady' alias 768 PMK, will have her first outing in over 25 years for the upcoming LE-JoG in September, and coincide with 40 years since purchased.

I just spotted this great clip on YouTube taken of all the cars parked at Gaydon taken by "58 twin cam", I hope that he doesnt mind me putting the YouTube link onto the forum.

Unlike my clip it shows all of the cars.

Colyn,
Yes a good clip, but yours was brilliant as it captures that moment I loved on leaving Gaydon and turning left through the enforced diversion, and seeing that great site of MGAs one after another travelling in the opposite direction.

Thanks Graham

you were one of the many people I had intended to introduce myself to on MGA Day but like most times,I bumped into some people and the day just somehow disappeared. Sorry!
Hopefully will get to meet you sometime soon.

I wish I had got more of the MGA parade on video, it was a terrific spectacle, probably one we wont see again for a long while.

Colyn

Thanks Colyn. It would have been good to meet up but as you say, the day just flew by. I think maybe we did meet at the MGA day at Bletchley a few years ago? Hopefully at the next one, I'm certainly not selling mine any time soon!
