MG MGA - MGA Exhaust deflector
I have a chance to acquire an MG exhaust deflector few weeks ago , with the "PRECIOUS" help of Steve Gyles ( thank's again Steve ). It is made in cast aluminium with a stainless steel clip to secure it at the end of exhaust pipe . There is a real nice MG badge on it . I have to find some way to glue that badge to the deflector because the 2 pins from the badge are too short to put a clip to secure it . Does someone know thew best way or wich is the best glue to secure it permanently . I just saw this Exhaust deflector somewere in olds advertising papers or in the Net but i can not find it again . Maybe someone have already see it somewere too and can give me the link . I suppose it is a quite rare option back in the 60's because this is the first one i see for real . It's make a nice look to the rear and change the sound too .It's send the smoke directly to the gound , good for my white garage wall when i'm back in . If someone want a picture of it just Email me . Jules MGA MKII 1962 jdes@sympatico.ca |

Jules, you don't say what material the badge is made from, but I'd suggest J-B weld if it's not plastic. Use this stuff quite often at work and it's great for use on both steel and aluminum. I use it to both fill small holes and to secure a stainless wear plate to an aluminum bracket. Should hold up under the limited heat also. [Disclaimer- this is a suggestion, not a guarantee, if the badge falls off I can't get you another ;-)] Glad you found that perfect accessory for your car. |

Bill , The badge is in the same material( white metal ) as the 1600mkII badges each side of the hood ( bonnet ) , and the exhaust deflector is in aluminium . There is quite enough heat at the end to take consideration of it . And it must be very secure because it's true , i probably never find another badge again if i loose mine . Thank's for the tips . I have one and lost the emblem. I did use JB and it failed. It does get quite hot. I used an emblem from a Magnette hub cap and cut the MG emblem out Then drilled small hole to mount it securely. Hope this helps |

Jeff , Were did you found your Exhaust deflector ? I found mine in England . I had plan to drill a small hole in the center and put a little stainless screw with locK&Nut behind as you do but i'm still tinking of . Thank's , Jules MGA MKII 1962 |

Jules JB Weld WILL degrade with exposure to heat. Even the level found in compact electronics mounted in/on plastic mounts. Go for a secure mechanical connection. There may be some way to replace/extend the existing pins. HTH Larry |

I have repaired broken carburettor float standoffs by drilling a small hole (#4) and tapping a new aluminum shaft into the hole. I believe that you could do the same for the badge. Good luck. Mike |

Larry, you may be right about JB weld degrading with heat and I agree that a mechanical fix is better.........but, my 1500 engine developed a crack on the dizzy side right on a water jacket. It leaked antifreeze. I roughed it up with a grinding wheel and patched it with JB weld. It held through 3 summers of hot, very heavy driving and never did leak. fwiw, fred |

I bought my reflector from anglo Parts in Europe. Moss now carries them.. The emblems seem to fall off. mine now looks good.. |
