MG MGA - MGA from 1970's
Hiall, just been reading a 1976 edition of Classic Cars which mentioned an MGA roadster NMR 888 belonging to a W Clark who was a member of the MG Car Club Midlands region, this car one an award at the first National Classic Car Concours at Weston Park in that year, I also remember it had been the cover car on that magazine around the same time, I was just interested if car or driver were still around or even still together, his son had an MGTC at the same meeting reg HTF 629 which also won an award, again too much time on hand, by the way the cover cars on this issue were two frogeyes one of which I know is still owned by the same very active member of the sprite BBS board Gordon |

Hi just answered my own question, last known in 1988 according to DVLA, I can't believe a lovely, show winning car can have disappeared, maybe scrapped in that short space of time 76-88, must be sold abroad Gordon |

Hi a long shot I know but does anyone have any back copies of Thoroughbred & Classic cars dating back to 75/76 I'm sure NMR 888 was on the front cover sometime around then regards Gordon |

Hi Gordon, Indeed NMR 888 was on the front cover of Thoroughbred and Classic Cars March 76, I still have a copy. Bill Clark was then living at Chesterton near Bicester. He visited me with the car during the restoration of my MGA 1600(YXP853)which I was then restoring, I think he may (secretively)have seen my restoration as competition on the concours scene at the time, Bill was then quite an elderly gentleman. My MGA ownership continued with a 4 year restoration of YDA160 Black mga twin cam Coupe, this car went on to win many concour events and was on display at numerous shows. I also built and raced 114EPK between the years 83 and 92 when I sold her on, this car as far as I am aware was, until last year, still being regularly raced. Perhaps the current owner can put the record straight there. I am currently rebuilding a 59 roadster, no more concours or racing for me this time round she will be a v good everyday car, with a bit of a twist!! if you follow my drift. Mark Dollimore |

Hi Mark, I thought my memory hadn't failed altogether, I just remember thinking what a lovely car as I was running a very rough MGA at the time and being very envious lol, do you know what became of the car it would be a shame if it had disappeared gordon |

Hi again Mark, is your twin cam still around, any pics, also would you be prepared to part with that copy of the mag. that you have for a fair price just for nostalgia's sake Gordon |

Gordon, if you could obtain and provide the chassis number of NMR888, then perhaps some of us overseas members could have a look at our club records..as you know, hundreds of these cars have been sold and gone to the colonies (this includes the USA!)over the past 30 years or so. |

Hi Gary, not sure I could ever get that info. I only knew from a photo in a magazine Gordon |

Hi now found a pic of the magazine cover, the year was 1976 and I was at The Royal Naval College at Dartmouth hoping to become a Fleet Air Arm pilot and I remember sitting in my cabin gazing longingly at that car, ah memories where did it al go wrong lol gordon |

Hi Mark the DVLA shows all three of your cars still active you must have done a good job on them all Gordon |

Hi Mark how could you bear to part with the twin cam gordon |

Gordon Yes she was a cracker CR box as well. At the time YDA was reckoned to be a good reference for checking against originality, correct trimming materials, connolly leather stamped with the original grain and dyed to match records, etc, etc,I did hear it passed through Bob West's hands relatively recently to have a new interior and other renovations. If that is true I'll weep into my next pint, perhaps Bob could enligten me. Mark |

Hi Mark I took a photo of YDA 160 at the Goodwood Revival in 2007, did you own it then? It looked pretty good Terry |
