MG MGA - MGA genuine red leather for seats
Hi All, Looking for original genuine red leather seat covers that have been removed and replaced with new by someone that's restored to new condition. Someone out there must have some old tatty seat covers out there in red.... Leather needed for repairs to an original coupe set of seats, although roadster seat covers would be fine. Also needed is original genuine rexine for the padded rail on the dashboard - again, used is ok as long as it's still intact. Will be at Silverstone, so can pay & collect from there. Cheers, Peter. |

Peter, I have an original set of coupe seats from a mk2. They have not been repaired in any way since they left the factory in Abingdon. I plan to use the wooden bases of the cushions as they are better than one of my roadsters. I will take some pictures tomorrow. I will have a closer look, they've been in my loft for fifteen years, but as I remember they are in typical condition for their age in terms of scuffing on the corners and broken stitching, but I think the leather is still pretty good with no splits. The rexine does not last so well, I have the original padded rail but the pvc is discoloured and disintigrated on the corners as it was exposed to uv during it's early years. You can use the seat backs and bits of rexine from underside as samples regarding grain and colour though. Neil |

Peter, I'm interested in restoring the original leather in my roadster instead of replacing it. My seats are well worn, a little brittle, with some stitching coming apart, but I like the weathered look and would just like to soften the leather a little to prevent cracking, and then restitch. What resources have you found for leather restoration? Methods, products, materials, etc. Thanks. Ken |

Ken, I have original leather in my car.I had great sucess with Lexol products. First use the cleaner, mix one third cleaner to two thirds water. Then apply the preservitive. A little very often. Every third day I would reapply ,did this for a least a month or until the creases started filling up and softening.I then applied Gliptone which gives the nice smell of leather and is also a preservative. Good luck, Duncan |

A BIG thanks to Neil for coming to the rescue with exactly what I needed and for no payment at all - looking forward to Silverstone to collect and have that "pint"....MaGic! Ken, I think Duncan has answered your question, I was going to go the Lexol route initially, and from what Duncan outlines, seems to be a good route to follow if you have no other choice. Thanks too to Bill Haglan for some nice original pics of his roadster seats. Cheers, Peter |

Duncan, It sounds like I gave up on the Lexol way too soon. I only applied it a couple of times. I've never seen Gliptone. Do you find it at a leather shop or an auto supply? Thanks. Ken |

Ken I get Gliptone from Hertitage upholstery here in Vancouver. www.hertitagetrim.com 604 990-0346. Duncan |

Peter A little off-thread but could you contact me by email on brucemayo@talk21.com re sidescreens. It's just that I saw your comment re attending Silverstone and thought we could perhaps continue our earlier discussions there. Do give me an email and I will put some thoughts back to you. Regards |

Peter, are you complete with the red stuff? found a red Armrest still on the original piece of carpet in my shed today. Siggi |
Siggi |
Siggi, I might be interested in your armrest.I have original seats but at some point the arm rest has been replaced and is not a perfect match. Let me know how much you would like for it. You can contact me at ddickin@telus.net. Thanks Duncan |

Hi Sigi, Thanks for the offer, been out of town. Yes, I would be very interested as this is the only 'part' missing from What Neil was able to kindly assist me with. Contact me off-line please: delta7jhb((at))intekom.co.za Cheers, Peter |

Duncan, Coupe or roadster? I have an original armrest but it is for a roadster not a coupe. It is in it's original condition except the stitching in the centre has split (the leather is still in one piece with no splits). The carpet has survived surprisingly well considering (compared to my coupe that turned to dust!). |
