MG MGA - MGA/Magnette carburetters
Are the SU carburetters used on the ZA Magnette identical to those on the MGA 1500/1600? Tore |

The same SU H2 carburettors but they specify different needles. From memory standard needles for MGA 1500 are GS and for the Magnette EQ. I can't remember the MGA 1600 and MGA 1600 Mk 2 needles. Also different rich and lean needles. I suspect that the difference is marginal at best (FWIW my MGA had EQ fitted but was more responsive when I got GSs HTH dan |

ZA had H2 = 1 1/4" carbs ZB had H4 = 1 1/2" MKIII & IV had HD4 MGA H4 are substantially the same as the ZB. Differences are jet needles and some linkage bits. FRM |

Thanks. I have access to a pair of ZA carburetters in good condition that I could use on my MGA coupe project, but thought they looked a little smaller than those that came with the car. And they obviuosly are! Tore |

Just wonder: As we know, when the MGA was introduced it had 68 bhp, but this was soon increased to 72. Could it be that the very early MGAs had the smaller H2 carburetters? Tore |

I think the change came with the engine no change from 15GB to 15GD where they changed a variety of things. There's no record of the smaller carbs being used on an MGA (I got my H2s and H4s confused earlier) |
