MG MGA - MGA / MGB frt ww hubs
Will a frt ww hub from an MGB fit onto a 1957 frt ww hub MGA?

Gordon Harrison |
No. MGA & MGB are different bearings, brake parts, and threads. FRM |

This is where I get confused. I have bought the hub shown in "THIS" picture and it said MGA/MGB hub. By looking at the picture is it possible to determine which hub it is?

Here is a bigger picture....I hope

Not sure, it does look like an MGA hub, but I think the MGB hub looks pretty much the same. I am guessing that the difference is in the bearing sizes? Pity it's not a rear as they are quite different between MGA and MGB. Does it match the MGA discs? (it's definitely not an MGA 1500 hub) |

I have told the seller to send it along and I will try it. To me it sure looks MGA. |

MGA thread is 12 tpi, MGB is 8 I think. |

Drum brake WW MGA has six studs to retain the drum. MGA has 20 & 30mm ID bearings, MGB had 1 1/4 & 7/8 MGA & early MGB have 12 TPI, later MGB from about 65 have 8TPI. This is NOT an MGA 1500 drum brake hub. It MAY be a 1600 disc brake WW hub, have to check bearing sizes. FRM |

FR, I hope you are right ,as I want an MGA WW Frt hub. Now all I need is to find another one for the other side. |

Gordon, note that they are handed! |

Hi Gordon , Which side is your hub left or right . If you don't need it , I might be interested about it . I need left side ( driver ) , mine have a bad treads . Jules jdesb@videotron.ca |

I have not received the part,at the moment. If it is the proper piece,I will keep it.So far it seems to be waht I need. I did find that The Little British Car Company, has new repro ww hubs,at the least expensive price. They are asking $127.00 brand new. That's a very good price, and if I cannot find the opposite side,I will buy one from them. |

The hubs are totally different. All MGA except Twin Cam use ball bearings. MGB uses taper roller bearings. |

Just a final thought. The orgional MGA Frt WW hub has 6 holes, for use with drum brakes. In a conversion to Frt WW disc brakes, the hub has only 4 holes. Therefore do you think it would be possible,(for a competant machine shop) to re-drill the 6 hole units with the 4 hole application. An important factor here would be ensuring the safety of the hub, IE: to many holes...reduced strenght, extra stress etc. |
