MG MGA - MGA Performance Muffler
The turbo muffler on the A has fallen apart inside after 25 years and it's time to replace it. I run an 1868 18V engine with tuned head and exhaust. I was wondering if others might have fitted a performance muffler to their A and what their thoughts and recommendations are. Thanks for any thoughts. Tyler |

I have the twin chrome tip performance muffler from Moss; installed it about 15 years ago and its still in great shape. It is a bit throaty, but I've become accustomed to the sound. It's their part number 454-590.

Thanks Nick, Someone told me the exit openings on that muffler were 1 inch in diameter. Is that true? Tyler |

Muffler tips measure 2" dia. inner opening & 2 3/8" outer. If it were a 1" opening I'm not sure the car would even run! |

Tyler, I need to correct my earlier post as I forgot that the tips flare out at the end. There is an inner pipe that's about 1 1/2" in diameter, leading to the 2" chrome tips. Here's a picture which shows the inner opening:

1950 with a standard MGA mild steel exhaust and an extra muffler under the drivers seat. Quiet, so great for driving distance, and goes like a rocket. The standard exhaust is pretty good on flow! |
