MG MGA - MGA Restoration and minor Modification Pictures

I have finally added a "few" pictures online of the MGA we restored a couple of years back. I have shared a few with everyone but really wanted to share these so others can get a few ideas of what they can do or may go through. I got a little obsessed with certain aspects of the restoration but think that the 238 photos of the 755 taken of this project should help a few people out.

Here is the main page, just click on the MGA Chassis for all the pictures:

A few highlights: 1.8L 3 main supercharged, a 2 plus 2 body-style, BRG with biscuit 'coloured' interior, burled dash from Moss, 60 spoke Dayton Chrome..........

If you really like, there are a few V6 powered MGs there along with an XK120 project that we are currently working on too.

Brian,

looks gorgeous! and so does the workshop! and so does the collection! You lucky, lucky **&$£@^! ;-)

I noticed in the photos that you've made a wooden battery cover shelf. I was thinking of making one too, not as a seat, but for (sorry to any purists out there) a speaker shelf with 2 speakers mounted in it. Battery clearance wouldn't be an issue, as I've got an 12V small Odyssey battery that is about half the size of a 6V.

I was wondering if you've got any drawings, photos, hints or thoughts on the construction of the shelf? And if so, if you're willing to share them with the rest of us?

Many thanks and enjoy the howl of that blower!

Grant :-)

Is that a standard generator on the MGA? It looks a bit large.

G Hudson,

Thank You! We _Try_ to keep it clean. Its far harder to be proactive on keeping a clean workshop but when people learn how its FANTASTIC!!! I have worked in clean and not so clean environments, let me tell you which I like better! One secret is to keep a nice CLEAN floor which means pick up all spills and leaks and no dragging junk across the painted floor. Its hard to get new guys and people who are not used to this concept to go this way, but when you are around this stuff long enough, you get to know how important it is.

So,if you mean where the caption says:
"1/8" thick board, then a sound deadening material under carpeting gives a flat look compared to the warped metal"

This is actually the backboard that I am speaking of. This is because this back separation/firewall was tilted rearward to give slightly more room and was not done to the level I would have required. No wood was placed over the battery cover in this car.

Conrad,

Great eye! that is a Ford Tractor Dynamo. middle 1960's. Same basic unit but it has actual bearings in it which means your supercharger serpentine belt system is not going to kill it in a few thousand miles. If I would have had more time, we would have removed the side terminal and manufactured an end terminal. This would have hid it quite a bit better, but we did have a deadline- which we were far past.

One more item that is really not noticed unless pointed out- this car has a pertronix. We know how to hide these pretty well and is one of my top five upgrades for ALL LBCs. Sorry I don't have any side view pictures of the engine here. Next time I see the car, I will try to take more along those lines.

Brian:

Great work and photodoc...What "color" (i.e., brand, paint code, etc.) BRG was used for this project?

Thanks,
Steve

Great pictures! I've only looked at a few of them full-res so far, but I plan to see them all.
