MG MGA - MGA bracket

Hi, I was cleaning out my shop and found this bracket that came with an MGA parts car. Can anyone tell me what it is. I think it may be a horn bracket, but I don't see anything like it in the Moss catalog.

Lyle, I have not seen that on the MGA. The reinforcement piece on the RH end looks like it has been projection welded, a process that came into common use after our cars were built.

It may have been used as a bracket for the throttle linkage on top of the intake manifold. Or not. Either way, it's custom.

I BELIEVE THAT IT IS A BRACKET FOR THE BODY STEADY THAT BOLTS THE BODY TUB TO THE HOOP ON THE FRAME OF AN mg-td-tf.THERE ARE TWO ON THOSE CARS.

Projection weld is common on the MGA. The technique is almost as old as spot welding. The floorboard nuts were welded to the frame rails that way, as well as captive nuts inside of the goalpost where the heater shelf and master cylinder bracket attaches. See picture of the weld nuts and current supplier here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/frame/fr111.htm

Thanks for the help everyone. Sandy, I did restore a '52 TD several years ago so it could very well be a T bracket. I'll check with them.

Sandy may be on the right lines. Similar looking brackets on the TF for holding the seats to the rear wheel arch.

See image from TF catalogue.

I meant TD. Sorry.

I guess Sandy figured it out. Shame, for a while there I thought you had a super rare LHD Right twist "Whatchamacallit". You could have been rich, but no, just a common MG part. ;-)

If the nut is threaded, the thread might narrow it down a bit. Marvin

Thanks a lot for the help everyone. Sandy gets an ata boy. It is for a TD. The nut is threaded. Lyle
