MG MGA - MGB Uprights on MGAs
Just an observation. I used the negative camber A arms on my Mk 2 coupe, which has Twincam suspension - no problem setting toe-in. I used them on the Jamaican, which is using MGB uprights (these longer A arms are reputed to allow you to avoid shortening the tie rods) and find that I do not have sufficient adjustment to pull the wheels in enough. I ran the threads in almost to the adjusting flats (24 unf x 5/8") and found that the tie rods now bottom in the ends - I shall cut off perhaps 1/4" to have full adjustment (will let you know if they now toe in enough when we get it on the alignment frame). I will also measure camber - sure looks like a whack of negative camber using the Moss 264-395 550 lb. spings. |

Bill, A and B uprights/kingpins are not set up with the same relation to steering arms, etc. This is why your longer A arms would work on your TC with A uprights vs your Jamiacan with MGA chassis and B uprights. For an A, part of the conversion to B uprights/brakes involves shortening of the tie rod ends. Review Doug Jackson's website article: http://mgbmga.com/tech/mga5.htm John |
