MG MGA - Mis-firing MGA at MG 2006? Who's?
OK, this is a real shot-in-the-dark. The thread on the mis-firing car reminded me about an MGA roadster at MG2006. In the hotel parking lot (where the vendors were) on Saturday. A friend and I tried to help this fellow, for more than an hour, till it started to rain. Car would only run on the rear two cylinders. We checked ingition, fuel, carb adjustment, compression, everything we could without dismantling the head. Everything seemed in order, nothing helped. I'm dying to find out what the problem turned out to be. He said the engine (or at least the head) had been rebuilt not long before traveling to the show. I think the car was from the middle part of the country, perhaps Michigan. Does this ring a bell with anyone? If so, what was the problem? Thanks, Gerry Foster |

GT, When I had my head "no-leaded", the silicon-bronze guides ,unbeknownst to me, needed to be enlarged to .002" clearance vs. the standard .0005". This manifested itself by the center (siamesed) exhaust valves hanging up therby decommissioning the two center cylinders. FWIW, Doug |

Doug, I know about this problem. However, the fact that the cylinders appeared to be building compression would seem to rule this out. Regards, GTF |
