MG MGA - Missing an MGA Engine and Tranny?

Interesting item but it almost looks like it was just plucked from someone's car. Of note are the full length carb overflow pipes.

Gordon

Burlens stock them: http://www.burlen.co.uk/partDetail.aspx?partID=49123

Alternatively, you can make up a set. There was discussion about the pipes late last year or early this. Should be in the archives.

The vacuum flame tube is attached to the rear manifold stud, not the second in. I wonder if it came from the factory like that?!!

Gordon, Steve,
I think that Stevson also have them at much less than half the price of Burlen.

Steve, there are some nice engine bay pictures in Brooklands Books (period reports) "MG MGA 1955- on p56 and p58 and John Price Williams "The MGA First of a new line" p122, showing the vac. pipe.

Shortened fuel overflow pipes can be extended to their original lengths by brazing some 1/8" (or is it 5/16") copper tubing to the original pieces. It is a perfect fit over the OD of the overflow tube. Alternatively, I extended mine by using pieces of the old brake lines using about 1" of the above mentioned copper tubing as a sleeve to couple the brake line to the overflow tube. In 7 years, nobody has ever noticed the modification.

As a side note, the seller is stripping out an MGA. The engine and trans have been 'just plucked from someone's car'.

I completly replaced my pipes with copper and soldered them into the old banjo's.I installed them and bent them to the proper fit, removed them, then used a propane torch and tinned the copper with solder and wiping them with a damp rag to even them out.Hard to tell them from steel.
