MG MGA - Must pull Lucas Distributor for Model #?

Do I need to pull Lucas distributor to find the Model #? Could I see it another way?
KX Bielinski

The model number i.e. 25D, 45D,... is embossed on the top face of the distributor next to the vacuum unit along with an arrow giving the rotor arm rotation. The part number e.g. 40510,... is stamped into the side of the body about an inch or so down from the model number. You may be able to see this with a mirror but the distributor is easy to remove anyway by just slackening off the clamp bolt and withdrawing it..................Mike

Mike, the mga distributor that you quoted with number 40510 is not a 25D or a 45D. It is a DM2.
KX to remove the distributor, slacken the bolt on the clamp, unscrew the vacuum pipe, remove the cap with the high tension wires out of the way, and before you pull the dizzy make a note of where the rotor arm is pointing.Do not turn the engine while dizzy is out.

Frank, I was only giving examples of numbers that might be found by KX on his distributor. It's quite possible that, like mine, it won't be the original one for his car..................Mike

Point taken Mike.
