MG MGA - My MGA bonus...Original steering wheel!
My car is on the way from California, so I only have photos to go by.... I did some research on the steering wheel, and WOW! It has the original factory optional wood wheel!.... Don't know, but I imagine that these are pretty rare.... When I first saw it, I thought I would change back to the standard banjo wheel.....But not now! I'm really excited about this...Here is the article about the wheel...And, yes, it is exactly like the one in the picture. Edward http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/accessories/at119.htm |

Edward, my A came with the same style wheel. No need for power steering when using this baby. Due to the some drivers physical size it might not suit everyone, it measures 17-1/2 inches in diameter. I just love it! How about some photos of your car Richard |

Soon as I get it, I will be taking pictures....I'm expecting delivery by Thursday (16th)... I'm anxious to get it on the lift , and have a really close-up exam of the car... Some discussions about this on another forum, suggesting that there are copies of this wheel out there, so I'm definitely going to look at it very closely. Edward |

Am I right in saying they are still made? I have just looked at pictures of my rebuild in 1997 and I have the identical wheel to the one described by Barney. I bought it new, then sold it a couple of years later when I fitted a 14 inch wheel. My preference is for the smaller wheel. Although heavier for parking, at speed it makes you feel as one with the car. Steve |

They are made by several companies including motolita and Mike Lampert. Mike has a page dedicated to telling the difference between the original and various reproductions. I was very lucky to get an unrestored original wheel off eBay in virtually as new condition. It has TCS stamped on the back of the wood rim and MG/A on the back of the hub. As an extra bonus it came with an "as new" original centre. |

All MotoLita wheels that I have ever seen, were signed on the front of one of the spokes. I will carefully examine the wheel, when I get it.... Obviously , if it is a smaller wheel, that would identify it as a copy...I will look for the Mike Lambert signature, or the original signature. Let's hope it turns out to be the real deal. Edward |

My car was delivered today! Two days early.... Some good news and some not-so-good news.... Regarding the steering wheel, it is a replica wheel, but it is a MotoLita, which is a very well made product...Just not the one I was hoping for..... Looks really good , and , if it is the one that Moss sells, it is almost $1000. wheel, so not such bad news. Edward |
