MG MGA - New Exhaust
http://www.maniflow.co.uk/uploads/17596_1d4129232e7d4c3dc14dc75b39a0fc8d.jpg Anybody had any experience of the exhaust from Maniflow? Mild steel outer with stainless inner which sounds like a good mix to me as I find the all stainless too tinny. Cost £200 looks the business. Any other suggestions for quality and performance very welcome. Merry Christmas and Happy holidays for cousins over the pond. Alan |

I fitted a mild steel Maniflow tubular exhaust manifold to my new 1950cc engine earlier this year and I have found it to be a beautifully engineered and constructed piece of kit. It fits the ports and lines up with the exhaust system to perfection. My engine tuner Cameron Gilmour says it is worth 10 bhp on his engines. I opted to have it ceramic coated inside and out by Camcoat it looks great. I decided on this to preserve the steel. My previous tubular manifold was unpainted and had an heat insulating wrap. Unfortunately this seemed to cause both severe corrosion and localised overheating causing the welds to split. One word of advice:- Make sure you tell Maniflow the diameter of the exhaust pipe it will fit onto and if it is to fit inside or outside of it. I got this wrong and both pipes ended up being the same diameter. I had to use a stainless steel tube to slip over them both to make them fit together. I would absolutely recommend Maniflow products and their excellent customer service. Cheers Colyn . |

Hi Colyn, thanks for the positive feedback and and the tip about pipe size, never occurred to me to check that one would go into the other so will check that now. Maniflow it is then. Thanks again Alan |

If you wish to have a beautiful mellow sounding exhaust make your own tailpipe from copper tubing. My 1954 MG-TF had such pipe installed by the prior owner. It had a mellow ringing sound. There were no harsh resonances at all. Besides that it will never rust out. Sandy |

Colyn, is the maniflow system any quieter than the standard mild steel ? R |

Apologies Alan and Roger, I misread the original post, I have fitted the Maniflow tubular exhaust manifold but not the complete exhaust system. My exhaust system is a large bore Moss stainless type which fits the manifold perfectly. It is very noisy but it is a really great noise and I love it. I admit that it gets a little tedious over long journeys but it still sounds great😁. I understand that the standard cast iron MGA manifold is quieter than a tubular steel one. Colyn |

Hi, I have Maniflow tubular manifolds fitted to both my MGA'S. One is a modified 1500 and standard size mild steel front to back pipe and a Moss stainless rear silencer the other is a 1950cc engined car with a 2 inch twin cam stainless front to rear pipe and a Moss stainless twin cam rear silencer. Both are quieter than a friends MGA fitted with a standard 1800cc MGB engine standard MGA exhaust system and a stainless rear silencer. If you are interested I have an as new Maniflow manifold to fit a standard exhaust system for sale for £185.0 that has covered less than 100 miles, currently selling new at well over £300.00.
