MG MGA - New thermostat
I‘m installing a new new thermostat. Do I use permatex on both sides of the gasket? |

No, and don't over tighten the gasket or it will simply crush thinner and not seal. |

If you have the studs out, put thread sealant on bottom threads, because two of the three tapped holes go through into the water jacket. If water can sneak past the threads it will leak a little and will rust the studs inside holes in the pot metal cover. |

David. Depends on the gasket. If it is the cork gasket, Dom's advise is correct. If it is a paper style gasket, I would use Permatex HiTack on both sides as this has worked well for me in the past with paper thermostat housing gaskets. Les |

The gasket is the new Moss Klingersil gasket. |

I use Wellseal for everything including the head gasket. Recommended by Rolls Royce - you can't argue. Never had a leak yet and did the whole engine with it. Good advice there on the thread sealant Barney. Pete |
