MG MGA - New to the MGA side

Hi All:
Well I finally have my MGA. The first British sports car that I drove was an MGA back in 1959. I was a typical 16 year old kid who had just finished reading “The Little Red Car” and, like so many others, I was bitten by the MG bug which infected me with the dreaded disease of MGitis.
A British mechanic worked in our small town GM garage and he was my hero because he knew all about MG’s. One Friday he phoned me and said, “Be at the shop tonight at 7:00.”
I showed up and there, in the work bay, was a nearly new MGA that had been brought in with a spun clutch. It was the first MG that I had ever seen. It was red and had wire wheels and it was much lower and smaller than I had ever imagined.
My mechanic friend said, “You help change the clutch and you can drive her.”
We worked all evening and most of the next day, finishing up just before supper.
“Fire her up, back her out and we’ll take her for a test run.” were the sweetest words I had ever heard. The sound, the acceleration, the beautiful instruments that included a tachometer, the crisp shifter, the speed so close to the ground; all while surrounded with the smell and luxury of leather and carpet and switches that clicked . . . I was in heaven.
The MGA that I have just acquired came from the same area as the car I drove so long ago and could conceivably be the very same car since there was only one or two around at the time and only one red one with wire wheels. Now all I have to do is a tiny bit of work and I can drive her again. :-)
I have owned many MGs over the years (including a few A s) but never a red, wire wheel MGA roadster. I have been on the “TD-TF” side of this list for some time but except to hear from me quite often as my “tiny bit of work” progresses.
Godspeed in Safety Fast

John, If you've not obtained one already it might be worth getting a Heritage certificate as it should tell you to whom and to where the car was shipped back in 1959.......................Mike
