MG MGA - Not running on all 4
My car started running badly on Wednesday, after I added gas, so I though it was fuel related. I made the carbs worse, then finally got them to be pretty smooth, but the engine still was running poorly. So last night I started on the electical. Tried changing the capacitor and coil. Still the same. Every one out of 4 seconds all 4 cylinders kick in. I was just looking at the moss catalog and I saw that thet sell a ground strap, for the points base plate. I don't remember seeing one. Just reminded myself that I should check the engine ground. But if that was the problem it wouldn't start. Any good ideas? I'm going to get a new set of points and condensor at noon, then remove the distributor to install them so that I'm sure it's done right. My points acted up last summer, and I changed them in place. Not the easiest thing to do, and I can't remember if I used a set that I already had. If you've had this probelm and found the cure, please let me know what you found. Thanks, Mike |

Adding fuel could stir up crud in the tank. Have you checked the carb float bowl screens to make sure they are not clogged? |

Every now and them when I notice my idle does not hold as normal I pull off the fuel top plates and put in a magnet tha picks up the metal crude from the tank to the carbs. Just have not had the time to redo the tank and the drain plug is rusted fast. If you have the plug and can drain, it may help out in the future. Randyh |

Found the problem. One screen(filter) in the fron carb was in backwards, and letting crud past. Which fouled the needle valve. Thank Gof I removed both, or I wouldn't have know one was backwards. Guess when I put it all togther a few years ago, everything was clean. So it took a while for the crud to start. Thanks, Mike |
