MG MGA - Now getting hot
On a recent long steep climb ,3 miles, in 2nd and 3rd at 3500 Revs temp rises to 130% 30% day (1500 A ) Idling or running 60/70 MPH all is well on a hot day. A 10 inch electric fan and a 4 bladed engine fan( Not a 6 )do the job 99% of the time. This is the first time I've worked the car so hard. The 10 inch electric fan covers about 3 fifths of the Rad. would an additional 8 inch electric fan keep the temp under the 130 under this occasional high load ? I feel it is an air flow problem. Thanks Sean |

Sean, if that is 130 degrees centigrade, that's a bit too hot and you've got a problem. If it is 130F, you're not hot enough! If you meant 230F, I wouldn't worry about it as long as you don't boil over and the temperature drops again when you get on the flat. |

Sean, In my 1500 coupe (stock fan) I absolutely pegged the temp gauge climbing the hill during parade laps on the "Old Course" at Watkins Glen. Did not boil over or blow any hoses. As soon as I started down hill towards the lake the temperature returned to normal. I think it's the nature of the beast. Cheers, GTF |
