MG MGA - Oil API specification

A long time ago Dave Godwin gave me a long explanation of the oil specification requirements for an MGA. The explanation details have been forgotten (we were in the desert in Sudan) and my question is ; what API spec should the oil have? SC, SE or some other?

Spec API SJ / CE is backwards compatible with earlier API specs and is always what I use in MGA / B / midget engines.
