MG MGA - OIL FILTER COMPATATBILITY

Guys

Can any one confirm if a MAHLE OC21 screw on oil filter is compatible with a UNIPART GFE 348 please?

Many thanks

Jerry,

If the rubber seal is the same diameter, and the filter screws onto the adapter correctly, and there is no valve inside to fowl the adapter stand pipe, then it should be OK to use.

However, I do not know this make MAHLE.

Jerry. The Mahle website has a filter comparison where you type in the manufacturer's number and Mahle will tell you if they have a comparable filter. When I typed in Unipart GFE 348, they did not list a comparable Mahle filter. So, I would not substitute the Mahle for the Unipart filter myself.

Jerry, what application is this for ?

A quick look suggests various Triumphs - and no obvious cross reference to other filter makes. The Unipart range has had some changes and rationalisations, so a substitute may be needed anyway.

Any details of the mounting arrangement would help us select a suitable filter,

eg hanging or inverted ?
if inverted does it have the stand pipe or not ?
( if inverted without a stand pipe then an anti-drain back valve in the filter is a good idea )
is there a pressure relief valve in the mounting ? ( if not then one in the filter is desirable. )

As Peter said, the seal size and the fitting thread need to match. Available space probably limits overall diameter and length.

( I bet that's more than you wanted to think about on a Monday morning )

The application is for a 1622 engine fitted with an external filter The filter is a Mahle OC21
I happened to buy a Unipart GFE 348 at Moss's stand at MG90 and just wanted to confirm that it is compatible having been advised by the guy that it was suitable for a 1622 engine!
It's not crucial as I can pick up an OC 21 for as cheap as £2.95 inc VAT plus delivery.
Any thoughts on alternatives and their suitability is welcomed.
Thanks
Jerry

I can't find much on the GFE 348 ( or the GFE 180 that it superceded ), but the Mahle OC21 has bypass and check valves so if it physically fits then it will be fine.
