MG MGA - Oil Pan
Can you get the oil pan off the car without pulling the engine. I rebuilt the engine and got it to run but there is a good oil leak and it looks like the oil pan is bad. So the question is do I have to pull the engine back out to replace the oil pan? |

No, you just need to release the engine mounts and raise it up a little |

Yes, it can be done w/ the help of someone with small hands. My 16 year old son had to help me, I couldn't do it w/ my oven mitts. The hard part is putting the front bolts in and getting them torqued down properly. Steve |

I have one not-so-common tool that comes in real handy here. It's an offset box end wrench. For instructions see here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/engine/of106.htm |

Why not make the five holes in the crossmember, as on the mga twin cam? Not concours standard, but it was done by the MG factory. Removal of the front oil pan bolts is then a simple task. See image. Mick |
