MG MGA - Old Performance Problem Solved
I've been meaning to report back on a performance problem that I posted on this board a few weeks ago. My engine had no power under load. The problem was really bad going uphill - car felt like a tractor. I topped-up the carb damper oil and that seemed to help a bit on level roads, but once I went uphill the lack of power was again obvious. Upon further inspection, the front carb float chamber was empty because the "white metal" needle was stuck in its brass seat. The one-year old needle seemed to have corroaded in place, perhaps from some sort of cross-metal chemical reaction. Replaced it with a brass needle and all seems fine. So, I was running on two cylinders, and now that I know what that feels like, I can more easily diagnose it next time. Regards, M.D. '57 Coupe |
