MG MGA - opinions needed
Hello all. Due to the passing of my grandfather, I am left with a barn full of MGA parts. There are 34 disassembled rear ends and related parts, axels drums ring & pinion gears etc etc. I need to scrap out everything that isn't of any value and save the things that I might need or want to sell soon. Can you give me your wisdom here. I think the housings could be trashed, why would anyone need them? Please feel free to contact me in private at my email KQS44444 at gmail.com if you like. TYIA Kathy |

Kathy, axle housings are not made anymore, so I would not trash them. Why not itemise everything and put them on classifieds here or issue a list to whoever asks. Or put them on ebay. A lot of people are looking for different crown wheel and pinion sets. |

Hi Cathy ,there are always people looking for pinions and ring gear sets of various ratios. Also good brake drums. Sort the ratios and check that the ring gears have not gone through the case hardening and put them on ebay or this Forum or Mg Clubs Etc. |

Hey Kathy, to MG people, nothing is trash! Put up a list of what you have and see what happens. Tom |

Kathy, It really would be in your family's best interest to check with a local club. Here is a list of clubs in Ohio. If you can possibly do it, try to become knowledgeable about everything you are trying to sell. One thing to remember is that regardless of an item's apparent lack of worth, somebody could probably use it. Also, regardless of an individual's apparent honesty, if he or she sees something in the pile that he (or she) has been looking for, you may not get an honest evaluation about that item. Something like, "Well, this is worth quite a bit, that's pretty valuable. How about I help you price everything, and btw, this old gauge is pretty neat. I'll give you a couple of bucks for the gauge." Later, you find out you sold a Judson Boost gauge for $5. You'll feel really bad about that. I'm not saying that'll happen, but I have seen it with other items. The list comes from this website. British Car Club Of Greater Cincinnati P.O. MGA'ers, thanks to all that replied so far. I'm new to this site and impressed with the replies, again thanks. As I explained, the rear ends are completely disassembled and sorted into boxes of same parts, drums, gears, bearings (cleaned checked & submerged in oil) hubs etc etc. I don't do EBAY so that is not an option. I can put together a list if anyone is interested but there is just about any part you would need or want to replace for an MGA. Mike Parker, please contact me at KQS44444 at gmail.com. Thanks Kathy |

I was recently quoted 11 cents per pound at our local auto scrapper for a vehicle. Steel(no plastic) I would expect to be slightly higher. So there is some value there even if you don't find a good home for your grandfather's stash. Try listing over on the T-series TD-TF section if this BBS. A lot of them use the MGA differential for upgrades. Also, any 3.9 diffs that ight be mixed in with them would be valuable for us MGA'ers for highway upgrades too. I don't expect that you would want to spend the time doing so, but if you found a local hobbyist, maybe they can sort out what you've got. |

Ms. Kathy, NAMGAR's GT37 is in Dayton, Ohio, in early July. There will be about 200 MGA's there for a week. If you are not far from Dayton, you could invite attendees to visit your barn, and to bring cash with them. Details of the organisers, and the GT event, are available on www.namgar.com, and www.GT37.namgar.com. Someone from a local club could help you to make a list. Peter. |
