MG MGA - Oversized bore?
| While rebuilding my 1600s M/C, I noticed a sticker on the side that says, "rebored M/C, use oversized replacement parts". I measured the cups and the diameter of the bore, and it was approximately 3/4 inch. Does anyone know what they mean by "oversize" and where would I get the parts? I know the M/Cs come in two sizes, 3/4 and 7/8 inch, but this one measures 3/4, so I don't think the 7/8 cups will fit. |

| Hi Cleve. "Oversize" means that the clutch and brake master cylinders bores have been machined out to a larger diameter. When this done, larger internal pistons and seals and other bits, must then be installed. Scarborough Faire in Pawtucket R.I. sells remanufactured 1500 and 1600 brake master cylinders that have oversize bores, oversize pistons, and seals. They also sell what seems to be rebuild kits for these oversize master cylinders, as follows: "M/CYL REP KIT - 3/4" bore" is part number M30A . They also sell "M/CYL KIT-oversize M1RX". You might want to contact Scarbourough Faire directly, to get more information about these parts, and whether they would be suitable for your oversize Master cylinder. By the way, the remanufactured brake master cylinders these folks sell are running about $209.00 US, with an exchange unit being required. Hope this helps. Glenn |
