MG MGA - Oxygen Sensor Installation

The vodoo systems of coming up with fuel mixture is driving me crazy.

I'm intrigued by installing a wide band oxygen sensor.

I've reviewed the archive and saw some materials. But does anybody have any current experience to refer me to?

Also how to adjust the two carbs if you have one sensor? (obviously you could put a sensor in the 1 and 4 port but I don't want to weld into the iron manifold)

Thanks.

Tyson,
I used an Edelbrock gage and welded the bung about two inches below the manifold, oriented where it could easily be removed when not needed. I used the sensor/gauge set-up to select the proper needles under loaded conditions plus a tweak of the dashpot oil viscosity. It clearly indicated a lean condition at higher RPM's. This allowed selection of a much better needle set. I labored over whether to mount two sensors in each branch for Carb tuning, but decided that the standard SU procedure for tuning and synchronization was OK. I really didn't want this installation obvious, which it would have been had I gone the dual route. A quick check of spark plug color confirms individual mixtures as being right. I've attached a powerful magnet to the gauge vody which allows it to remain hidden behind the dash out of view. I pull it out once in a while for a quick mixture check. I'm glad I didn't go for the far more expensive extended range set-up.

Doug, can you send me pictures and more information on the unit you used.

Thanks

I have used PLX devices' M-300. It works fine. In my case the sensor is welded in the collector of tubular exhaust manifold. I have only one carb since the car is supercharged

I had to convert to negative earth to utilize the Edelbrock Kit. This was discussed with their Tech. Staff..."No way to convert the product to positive ground".
