MG MGA - Powerspark Ignition Ltd
This is a UK Company, with what I can ascertain has a good reputation for their range of products. I was looking at purchasing a distributor for one of my A's. When I went to do a checkout on-line it didn't show any VAT deducted (for Non-EU residents). I had previously checked with them and they advised that VAT was included in their advertised prices, so I would have expected that VAT would have been deducted at checkout? I again contacted them, and then they changed their mind, and that VAT was added to advertised prices!...very confusing, and I think maybe they have a bit of a scam going on (to Non-EU buyers)! Could anyone in the UK maybe check with Powerspark and find out what is correct? |

Gary,
I've bought small items from this company and have meet the owner at a large show. I don't think they'd operate a scam as such. More likely they don't fully know what they're doing with constructing websites, catalogues and VAT application overseas. I don't think Powerspark are a very big company. AFAIK their prices include VAT, based on a (UK) BBSer buying a set of HT leads from them recently but their web site and on-line catalogue doesn't give any VAT details that I can find. I think buying a brand new full dissy is a good idea, personally I'd only have a fully electronic version (top and bottom) rather than any mechanical parts to soon wear out of sync. However, with this company and another I do wonder given the very low retail price whether it might be hit and miss, perhaps with many hits and few misses, I don't know but how much quality control can there be at these prices. I do know that 123 fully electronic dissys are good because I have one but from reports I'd also probably point you towards CSI fully electronic dissy. |

Hi Gary
I have bought quite a few ign modules from Powerspark and have had 100% success rate-- so far anyway-- To be honest I've never even given VAT a thought ,just thought it came off automatically I 'think' it's the same there as it is with our GST ---If the advertised price doesn't include VAT they have to state in the pricing -plus VAT Something that might interest you though is that if you buy through Aust ebay you get nailed GST through the carrier bringing it in but if you go Ebay UK and find the same part it's usually advertised either --for example only-If it's $100 plus shipping, when the shipping's added the GST gets addded when you enter your postal BUT I've found, if you can find an add for the same item on Ebay UK at a slightly higher price (say $115)with free shipping included and get that one instead then it doesn't attract GST Weird but it works willy |
